basicappleguy.com launched two years ago, on April 21, 2020.

Today I am ecstatic to be celebrating the second anniversary of basicappleguy.com. Foremost, I want to thank everyone who has supported, encouraged, complimented, and sure, even critiqued me over the past year. Your support, from the tips to the compliments, keep this site a project I delight in continuing to pour my heart into.

BasicAppleGuy started as a pandemic passion project to 1) keep my sanity intact and 2) as a way to connect and write about the Apple community. I never imagined how a few happenstance digital doodles would develop into some pretty popular wallpapers, which would, in turn, propel this project to heights I never would've imagined. As the year rolled on, I began to make a name for myself in the community, ignited primarily by the wallpapers I designed, which created a feedback loop that has continued to challenge me to learn and develop new designs for the community. It felt awesome to suddenly start seeing things I made shared being and appreciated by the tech community, and that's something I continue not to take for granted.

But behind the mask (or cup?), this site has continued to be an essential refuge for self-care and restoration. As 2021 rolled along, Canada (along with other parts of the world) got hit with sizeable Delta & then Omicron waves of Covid-19. The personal stress of this pandemic dragging on and the vitriol, frustration, and restrictions it imposed took a significant toll on me. Layered on top of that were the challenges of work, family, and other stresses that comprise the ebb and flow of life but which all felt more acute when compounded together.

It became essential that this site served as a way to connect with the Apple community and as a refuge from everything else. During BasicAppleGuy hours, I can create wallpapers, post stupid memes, and write about things I am genuinely passionate about. This world within the world gets to be where I can have the freedom and fun to do whatever I am inspired to do, and I found that to be a source of peace and fulfillment.

I have no clue where Year 3 is headed since nothing I could have imagined occurring over the last year would have seemed possible just a year ago. Two years later, my goal with this site remains the same: to be where my appreciation and musings on Apple can continue onward. Thanks so much!
