AirPods Beanies

AirPods Beanies are the perfect throwback to the iPod Socks released nearly two decades ago.

Seventeen years ago, Apple launched its most influential accessory, the iPod Socks, a set of six colourful pouches for your iPod (i.e. the ancestor of the iPhone). Rewatching the Keynote today, you get the sense the audience wasn't wholly convinced Steve wasn't just pulling a prank on everyone in attendance. But the iPod Socks were bonafide accessory sold for over half a decade. Were they protective? Not really. Were they functional? Not particularly. But they were cute and whimsical, which was somehow enough to cement them as one of the most iconic products in the Apple canon.

Discontinued in 2012, a whole generation has now grown up unable to experience the bizarre joy this accessory evoked. That was until the debut of Native Union's AirPods Beanies; the dark years are finally over.

AirPods Beanies in Glacier, Indigo, Sage, & Peach.

Released on the 10-year anniversary of Steve's passing, Native Union’s AirPods Beanies revive the iconic look of the iPod Socks, this time for an accessory that can coincidently cost as much as the iPod itself. Available in four colours (Glacier, Peach, Indigo, and Sage), these beanies fit any of Apple's AirPods (except the AirPods Max… I tried).

AirPods are a fitting product to receive the iPod Sock treatment, as they and the iPod both revolutionized the way we experience music. Where iPod famously gave us a thousand songs in our pocket, the AirPods now provide us wireless access to millions of songs streamed to our devices. And both became the best-selling music product in their class for millions of users around the world.

Although they lived in different times, they both revolutionized the way we listen to music.

The Beanies come as a set of four and retail for 19.99 USD. They offer lightweight protection again scratches and are thin enough to allow wireless charging of the case while still inside the pouch. But I mainly bought them for the nostalgia and because they're friggin' adorable!
