Mt. Hood Vision Pro Wallpaper
The banner immersive environment for Vision Pro is now available outside the headset for your Mac, iPhone, and iPad.
One of my favourite landscape images from Apple in recent years was the immersive environment of Mount Hood, which Apple captured for Vision Pro.
Inside the headset, this immersive environment places you on the shoreline of Trillium Lake. In the distance, you can see the imposing facade of Mount Hood and hear the gentle patter of rain on the water. The immersion is almost meditative and helps you forget about everything else for a minute.
Sadly, no high-resolution stills from Vision Pro existed for this wallpaper to be used on other devices. I've had someone try a 4K screenshot with the Developer Strap, but even then, the rendering affected the clarity of the image. The only image came from X user M1Astra, who posted small 2K wallpaper stills images from the Vision Pro beta in October, 2023.
Taking that as a base, I played around with upscaling it in Topaz, doing several passes with different upscaling models. Some did a better job upscaling the mountain, while others did better upscaling the sky or the trees. I took these multiple versions, fed them into Pixelmator, and mixed them until I found a composite I felt best about.
I'm pleased to have this wallpaper available across devices, not only inside Vision Pro. The final result is a respectable 6K wallpaper that looks great on Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Enjoy.
