macOS Tiburon

My pick for the next version of macOS? Tiburon.

Apple has been using California-themed names for macOS releases since 2013. Back in 2014, MacRumors uncovered documentation showing that Apple had filed a number of potential names through various shell companies, several of which eventually became real macOS releases, including Yosemite, Sierra, Mojave, Sonoma, and Sequoia.

At other times, though, Apple’s naming has been much harder to predict. To my knowledge, there was never any surfaced documentation pointing to names like El Capitan or Tahoe before they were announced.

That still leaves Apple with a number of protected California-inspired names it could pull from, including California, Condor, Diablo, Farallon, Grizzly, Mammoth, Miramar, Pacific, Redtail, Redwood, Rincon, Shasta, Skyline, and Tiburon.

As part of my annual WWDC bingo boards, I’ve made a tradition of guessing what the next version of macOS might be called. This year, my pick was macOS Tiburon, and to go with it, I generated an image for the board.

The funny thing is that I ended up liking the image so much that it has been my desktop wallpaper for the past week. And after posting the bingo board and having a number of people asked about it, I figured I’d share it here for anyone else who might want to use it.

Just a quick disclaimer: this is an AI-generated image, so I’m not taking any credit for its creation. But since there seems to be some interest in it, I thought it was worth sharing.
