Haberdashery
Welcome to the Basic Apple Guy Haberdashery, a new microblog within a blog (that sounds confusing). Let me explain.
For the past three years, I have been hosting all of my smaller content and little wallpaper projects shared to Twitter on Google Drive. And that setup, for three years, seems perfectly satisfactory. But that all came crashing down on March 11 of this year when I posted the AI-generated Big Starry Sur on my social media. The demand for that particular wallpaper quickly outstripped my Google Drive allowance. Within the hour, I was receiving requests from hundreds of people to rehost and email them the wallpaper. It was a mess. From that day forth, I pledged to move away from Google's hosting and begin posting the content I create on this site, which has faired far more reliably for handling spikes in traffic.
And so began my quest to create a dedicated and permanent space on this site. The entries needed to be quick to post (<30 minutes) and separated from my main blog to minimize my long-form posts and more extensive projects/wallpapers from feeling drowned out.
So on April 26, I silently launched The Haberdashery when I posted my AI-generated Rancho Cucamonga wallpapers, and now have a growing collection of over a dozen posts under this new microblog. Most recently, I overhauled the backend of my microblog and updated all the entries within it before making it public. As of this post, that collection now includes projects like:
Tysons Corner or Feels Like Spring wallpapers;
Old upscaled Apple wallpapers like iOS 7's Nebula or Mac OS X Leopard’s Grass Blades wallpapers;
Icon creations, including my Final Cut Pro icon and a recreation of the Apple Vision Pro Notes app;
And a place to host Apple retail store wallpapers since Apple takes them down shortly after the store opens its doors.
As for the name, it was inspired by the stores I visited during my travels that sold all manner of miscellaneous apparel, household goods, and assorted knick-knacks. It's also a delightfully pleasant word to say. So enjoy the Basic Apple Guy Haberdashery. I will post new items as they arise while digging into my archive and posting long-forgotten content from years back.
