Apple + Gemini
Google & Apple have entered into a partnership to give Siri a Gemini upgrade.
On Monday, January 12, 2026, Apple announced a partnership with Google to use a version of its Gemini model to power Apple Intelligence and Siri in the coming years.
Google’s statement:
“Apple and Google have entered into a multi-year collaboration under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google's Gemini models and cloud technology. These models will help power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri coming this year.
After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google's Al technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users. Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute, while maintaining Apple's industry-leading privacy standards.”
Siri has been heavily memed since shortly its debut. It has long been slow, limited, and inconsistent, and over the years it has been lapped by the rest of the industry. While Apple attempted to improve Siri using its own in-house Apple Intelligence foundation models, those efforts never fully materialized, leaving Apple scrambling and lagging behind most other companies in the AI space.
This partnership is especially interesting because it effectively makes Gemini the dominant AI assistant across the entire smartphone market. Every android and iPhone will now run Gemini. While part of me wishes Apple had built its own AI model, I also do not think that is strictly necessary. Apple does not need to be the best at everything, but it does need to be the best at the things it chooses to compete in. People do not buy iPhones for the AI assistant, but with Gemini on board, iOS users get great hardware, software, and the best ecosystem, they will also now gain a built-in assistant who actually assists.

Anyways, I made this cheeky little wallpaper after hearing the partnership. Google has started redesigning its logos by blurring its colours inside the shape, so I figured I would do the same for Apple. And do not get me wrong, I am sure the designer behind that gradient got paid more than I will ever make in a lifetime of health care work. All that said, I hope you enjoy it.

Three versions of the wallpaper are available, a Gradient Apple Logo with a Black or White background, and a gradient background with a white Apple logo. They're available for your iPad, Mac, and iPhone. Enjoy.
